Tufa Towers, Mono Lake, CA

The tufa towers are limestone formations built up from minerals entering the lake via underground springs. Since 1941, the city of Los Angeles has drawn off drinking water that would otherwise have drained into Mono Lake, so the lake level has dropped and exposed these towers. It is quite an unusual sight.
